Marshall M. Wise

Marshall M. Wise has had three careers: Cantor, accountant, and founder & principal of his own insurance agency.
His cantorial work began in his first week of study at the Cantor’s institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary, when he was hired as the cantor of a New Jersey synagogue. He continued his cantorial profession for the next 50 years, singing in both New York and New Jersey synagogues. As Cantor Wise, he has officiated at weddings and funerals, and has concertized extensively. He has contributed his services to many synagogue observances, organizational events, and civic occasions, in 2021 and 2022 he conducted the High Holiday service at the New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Marshall has been professionally involved with synagogue music since early childhood, having sung in children’s and Cantor choirs. He is proud of his family’s long rabbinic tradition: his father, uncles, grandfathers, and great-grandfather were all rabbis.
He has a lyric baritone voice and studied with Professor Robert C. White, a vocal coach at the Metropolitan Opera. He has performed at Carnegie Hall as a member of the Oratorio Society of New York, New York Choral Society and Cecilia Chorus of New York.
In addition to twelve years of yeshiva training, he earned a BA degree from Queens College and an MBA from Baruch College, enabling him to work as an accountant for a brief time. Afterwards, he operated his insurance business for more than 40 years and qualified for acceptance into the insurance industry’s prestigious Million Dollar Round Table. Following his recent retirement from his insurance practice, Marshall has decided to return to his first love….singing.
